Changes to entertainment licensing

The Government has previously announced its intention to further deregulate various forms of regulated entertainment in certain circumstances. The consultation document can be found here.

Whilst many would see the aims of the measures as laudable, there may be disquiet for some residents as to the proposals regarding live music and recorded music. Live music has already been deregulated by Live Music Act 2012 so that amplified live music between 8am and 11pm does not need a licence where the audience is no more than 200 people. This audience limit will be increased to 500. The provision for recorded music will be similar. However, the protection for residents of the right to ‘review’ a licence to either make the music licensable again or to add conditions to the licence will remain.

The consultation seems to seek comments on how the measures will be implemented.
